In a vehicle driven by the shaft 102 of an electric motor engaging the rims of the wheels 94 of the vehicle, the said rims normally engage the surface on which the vehicle travels, but on reaching a gradient a raised toothed surface 136 thereon engages toothed sprockets 98 on the said wheels, said sprockets 98 having smaller diameters than said wheels, whereby the vehicle is driven on lower gearing.
