Abstract

1,048,292. Valves. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. Feb. 12, 1964 [Feb. 12, 1963], No. 5863/64. Heading F2V. In a piston valve, e.g. to provide a safety cross-connection between the outgoing and return line of a closed hydraulic circuit, the piston closure 5 is displaceable in either direction from the neutral position, against a stack of cup springs 8 upon spring rod 12 which abuts the end of a spring cylinder 7 and spring abutment 11 threaded therein, by excess fluid pressure from pipe connections 1 or 2 to establish communication therebetween. Spring rod 12 is screwed into a bore of piston 6 and spring abutment 11 is threadedly engaged within spring cylinder 7 and together with hollow pin 15 is non-rotatably keyed to rod 12 whereby, upon rotation of pin 15 the spring rod 12 and abutment 11 are displaced to alter the tension of the springs. The differential pressures acting across the piston 5, and hence the effective spring tension, is reduced by cross-connecting each connection 1 and 2, via bores in the interior of the piston 5 and spring rod 12, to the various cavities associated with piston ends on the other side of the piston 5. The piston 5 is manually operable to move along rod 12 by non-rotatable engagement of a square end 18 with a hand wheel 20, the rod 12 being locked against rotation by a nut 17.
