Abstract
At least one vinyl or vinylidene compound is added to a polyacetal before melt-shaping. The polyacetal is preferably polyoxymethylene or poly(oxymethylene-oxyethylene). The vinyl or vinylidene compound is preferably styrene, divinyl ethylene glycol, methyl methacrylate, 2-methyl-5-vinyl-pyridine or allyl alcohol. The vinyl or vinylidene compound is preferably added in an amount of from 0.01% to [c inh2{residence time(second)}2 x 10-6]% (wherein c inh is an inherent viscosity of the polyacetal measured at 60 DEG C. in a solution of 0.1 g. of polyacetal in 100 c.c. of parachlorophenol and the residence time shows the time during which the polyacetal is maintained in the molten state) for every one compound and the total amount of such added compounds does not exceed 20%. The addition of these compounds prevents thermal decomposition during melt-shaping into filaments, films &c.
