Abstract

1,047,173. Ship's derricks. WILEY MANUFACTURING CO. July 24, 1963, No. 29330/63. Heading B8B. A boom 15, Fig. 1, of a ship's derrick may be swung from the position shown in full lines to that shown in chain-dotted lines without any dismantling. The boom is universally pivoted on a travelling platform 2 and may be supported by conventional conical kingposts instead of the tripod kingposts shown. The tripods may alternatively have one outer leg and two inner legs. Topping lifts 11, 12 pass from winches 13, 14 via pivoted caps 7, 8 on the kingposts to lugs 49, 50 on a rotatable head 17, Fig. 6, on the boom. Pivoted links 47, 48 support a load block. Fig. 8 shows a modification in which a cap 52 rotates on the boom and in Fig. 9, eyes 55, 56 for attaching the topping lifts are mounted on rotatable plates 57, 58. The boom is swung over centre by shortening the topping lifts and then turning the boom either manually or by an hydraulic device to the side remote from the hoisting winch. Fig. 10 shows a boom 15<SP>1</SP> supported by conical kingposts 3<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP> and a forked heel 61. The hoisting rope 20 passes down through the boom over pulleys 59, 60 to a winch 62. The forked heel is pivoted on brackets mounted on a rotatable plate. The hoisting gear 18, Fig. 11, is eccentrically mounted on the boom and the links 47, 48 are connected by a band 70, Fig. 12, which carries an anti-friction roller band 71 which abuts bands 74 on topping lift links 72, 73. The topping lift lines pass through the kingposts. Fig. 16 shows a boom heel pivoted at 92 to the top of a post 86 which extends between decks 87, 89. The hoist cable 94 passing through both the boom and the post. Fig. 20 shows a topping lift line 113 attached to a bracket 111 which rotates on a pivot 101 on a kingpost. Alternatively, the line 113 may be attached to a link 1 Fig. 23 shows hoisting gear 134 suspended from a boom 123 by a link 133 pivoted about an axis 132 to plates 130, 131, which are themselves pivoted by pins 128, 129, Fig. 24, to plates 124, 125 supported inside the boom. An opening 135 permits the link 133 to swing both longitudinally and transversely of the boom.
