Abstract
<PICT:1047148/C6-C7/1> Reeled web, particularly magnetic tape 1 is fed into a bath 3 of methylchloroform or the so-called "refrigerant 113" (1:1:2-trichloro-1:2:2-trifluoroethane) where it is agitated at 14 (e.g. by an ultrasonic transducer or brush gear), washed by clean solvent at 4A, dried by hot air at 4B and wound on to a takeup reel 5. Solid foreign matter is removed from the bath 3 by the side circuit 11-13 and a portion of the solvent is distilled at 19 and fed into the side circuit 20-22 to feed the washing jets 8. Solvent removed by the hot air at 4B is condensed at 16 and returned to the clean solvent reserve 18. Water vapour, which might result in ice formation at 16, is removed at 21.
