Abstract

1,046,478. Catheters. G. BROOKE. Dec. 7, 1964 [Oct. 30, 1963], No. 42848/63. Heading A5R. A drainage catheter has a triangular slot 12, 23 at each end and a tensile member of shorter length secured between the nipple 14 and a plug 22 at the opposite end so that, when the nipple is coaxial with the catheter tube for insertion into the body, the opposite end is buckled in the region of the slot 23, nearest the plug. After insertion in the body, the tensile member is retracted by straightening the buckled portion and the catheter tube then buckles in the region of the other slot 12 adjacent the nipple to cause the nipple to project laterally from the axis of the catheter tube for holding it in position in the body. The opposite end is held straight by a slidable sleeve 25 having apertures 31 and a flared portion 28. The catheter is connected to an inlet pipe 29 (Fig. 2 not shown) of a urine bag 30 by an adaptor 27 which engages the flared portion 28 and encloses the remainder of the sleeve 25. Fluid can then flow from the catheter through the slot 23, the apertures 31 and the adaptor to the urine bag. The urine bag has an outlet cock 34.
