Abstract

1,046,183. Resistors. WELWYN ELECTRIC Ltd. April 9, 1965 [May 12, 1964], No. 19696/64. Heading H1S. A high-voltage resistor comprises a resistive covering 2 on a ceramic tube 1, an outer silicone elastomer insulating layer being surmounted by a metallic sleeve, 7 which is connected to one resistor terminal 3 and is separated by a spark gap 11 from a member 9 connected to the other resistor terminal 3. The metal sleeve 7 also provides protection by capacitive reduction of the voltage gradient along the resistive covering produced by transients and by reducing corona effects. The resistive covering may be a film cut to a helical form along part of its length. As in Specification 918,666 an internal spark gap may be provided, hollow electrodes 4, 5 apertured to allow the passage of gas being provided.
