Sifting apparatus comprises a screen frame 22 supported above a base frame 12 so as to be free to gyrate in a horizontal plane about a central position towards which it is biased, a drive shaft 100 connected at its lower end to the base frame so that it can pivot, and connected at its upper end to the screen frame, by a bearing having an outer race fixed relatively to the frame 22 and an inner race spaced from the drive shaft 100 by a resilient sleeve 124, an eccentric weight 150 secured to the upper end of the drive shaft, and a motor for rotating the shaft. In the Figs., the screen 20 is secured on frame 22, and frame 22 on a ledge 28 within hopper 24, by brackets 32 and bolts 30. The hopper is supported on frame 12 by four posts 46, each attached to frame 12 by a rubber bush mounting 52 (Fig. 5, not shown) permitting small deviation of the post from the vertical, and attached to webs on the hopper by a rubber bush mounting 50 permitting lateral movement between the hopper and the post. The lower end of shaft 100 is supported by bearing 102 on pin 106 through a rubber bush 116 in compression, and the upper bearing 134 is secured to a cross-bar 132 on the hopper. Shaft 100 is driven by pulley 168 and belt 167 driven by motor 160 on frame 12.
