Abstract
1,044,950. Sensing records. ENGLISH ELECTRICLEO-MARCONI COMPUTERS Ltd. Feb. 20, 1964 [Nov. 20, 1962], No. 43941/62. Heading G4M. [Also in Division G1] Light from a source (not shown) enters a transparent block 1 through surface 5 and falls on a record 13 after passing through surfaces 3a, 3b. Silicon photo-cells 8, 9 detect light which is reflected by the record 13 and which re-enters block 1 through respective surfaces 3a, 3b. An opaque barrier 4 prevents light entering at 3a from reaching photo-cell 9 and light entering at 3b from reaching photo-cell 8. As a data mark passes beneath surfaces 3a, 3b, spaced pulses of opposite polarity are produced by photo-cells 8, 9 and a circuit 16 rejects all other signals.
