Abstract

1,044,642. Filters. HARPENER BERGBAUA.G. May 14,1964 [May 16,1963],No.20154/64. Heading B1D. Coal slack and the like has its water content removed by rotating a drum or disc filter, with a sub atmospheric pressure within the filter, through a bath containing a sludge of coal slack so causing some slack to adhere to the circumferential surface thereof and undergo water removal as the filter rotates, the slack on the filter also being treated by steam at between 1.2 and 1. 5 atmospheres and between 120‹ and 135‹C. The steam penetrating the slack reaches condensation point directly above the filter. The steam is introduced through a connection 5 into a hood 4 which is arranged above the filter further from the feed side than from the side where the sludge is drawn off by scrapers 7. The slack is therefore preliminary drained in the zone B before passing into the steam treatment zone C. When the filter comprises a plurality of discs mounted on a hollow axle 9, (Fig. 3, not shown) a hood covers each disc and steam distributing chambers 14 are formed and provided with steam through connection 15. The steam passes on to the slack on each individual disc through holes in a sector displaced in direction of scrapers 17.
