Abstract

In a null method of voltage measurement using contactless switching the compensating voltage opposing the measured voltage is obtained by connecting in series with output terminals Kk the secondary windings SA1, 5A2. . . of any desired number of saturable, D.C. controlled transformers TA1, TA2. . . associated with further similar transformers TB1, TB2 ... whose secondary windings SB1, SB2 . . . are connected in series opposition with the windings SA1, SA2 ... and each have a voltage output sufficient to compensate the residual voltage of the corresponding winding SA1, SA2 ... when the transformer TA1, TA2 is saturated. Each pair of transformers TA1, TB1, TA2, TB2 has its own control circuit comprising a constant A.C. supply WG for the primary windings PA1, PB1, and a D.C. supply B for the control windings GA1, GB1 whose energization is respectively controlled by transistors STA, STB connected to a bi-stable reversing circuit F operable by a control pulse from terminal Ks. One such pulse will cause winding GB1 to be energized and so saturate transformer TB1 thus inserting (or switching in) the voltage of winding SA1 in the compensating circuit. This voltage is removed (or switched out) by another control pulse which causes energization of winding GA1 and saturation of transformer TA1 and allows insertion of the voltage of winding SB1 to compensate the residual voltage of winding SA1.
