Abstract

1,044,489. Stud and socket fastenings. C. M. R. FINDINGS & CO. Ltd. Oct. 6, 1964, No. 40751/64. Heading E2B. [Also in Division A3]. A connecting mechanism for use in articles of jewellery, comprises a pin member 1 having a head, a shank and a tail and being notched adjacent the tail end, and a canister member adapted to interconnect with said pin member and comprising a casing 4 closed at one end by a recessed closing member 5 having an aperture 7 so as to allow insertion of said pin member, and containing loosely mounted within said recess and in alignment with said aperture, a laterally disposed floating spring member 10 adapted to co-act with and detachably retain said pin member, and including pin member guiding means, so that in use the notched end portion of the pin member is inserted into the canister member via the aperture 7, is positioned therein by said pin member guiding means, and is detachably retained therein by said floating spring member coacting with said notch. In one embodiment for use in a tie tack the pin member 1 is circular in cross-section and has a circumferential groove 2. The casing 4 is a metal can closed by a circular disc 5, and the floating spring member 10 is seated on a washer 8 within the casing, the central hole 9 of the washer constituting the pin member guiding means. The spring member is either U-shaped with "waisted" limbs, or in the form of a broken circle with its end portions 'turned inwardly of the circle. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4, for use in an ear-ring no washer is present, and the casing is a disc 13 with a central aperture 14 constituting the pin member guiding means. In a third embodiment the casing is a solid segment of a sphere with a bore in line with the aperture 7 as the pin member guiding means.
