Abstract

A non-ageing, deep drawing grade, low chromium, alloy steel which is teemed in a rimming or semi-killed state comprises:- C 0.02-0.08% Mn 0.1-0.5% P 0.008-0.06% S 0.01-0.06% N 0.001-0.005% Cr 0.15-0.4% the balance being iron. Up to 0.02% Si may also be included in the steel. The steel may be made by a single slag treatment of crude iron containing 0.6-0.8% Cr or by a two slag process for crude iron containing 0.8-1.7% the melt being teemed in a rimming condition. The hot rolled strip is then cold rolled 30-70% and annealed at 650 DEG -700 DEG C. Ageing of the steel at 100 DEG C. is also disclosed.
