Abstract

1,042,918. Reinforcement spacer. F. W. BERRY. Nov. 23, 1964 [Nov. 21, 1963], No. 46001/63. Addition to 818,538. Heading E1V. A reinforcement spacer made from a synthetic plastics material, which has a resiliently deformable catch element 6 constructed, and arranged with respect to a reinforcement receiving slot, as claimed in Specification 818,538, is provided with apertures or perforations la additional to the reinforcement receiving slot. The protrusions 3, and the frame portions 2, 4 and 5 are proportioned to form one or more steps or shoulders between the slot and that part of the periphery of the spacer which is intended to be located at a surface of the concrete in which the spacer is embedded, whereby to overcome the tendency for moisture to seep towards the reinforcement, between the concrete and the spacer. A plurality of grooves 9 or shoulders, formed in the wall of the reinforcement receiving slot, may be selectively engaged by the catch element 6 to accommodate reinforcements of different cross sectional dimensions. The element 6 can be retained by a lug 10 during storage or transport.
