Abstract
1,042,266. Glow discharge lamps. BURROUGHS CORPORATION. March 20, 1964 [May 20, 1963], No. 11916/64. Heading H1D. A cold cathode glow indicator lamp for displaying alpha-numeric characters comprises several strip cathodes lying in a common plane and mounted on an insulating base plate; a shield plate having slots therein through which the cathodes extend, and an anode, e.g. a wire grid; the tube contains a gas, e.g. neon or argon together with some mercury, and the shield plate prevents material sputtered from the cathodes from short-circuiting the cathodes or their supports on the base plate. The mercury may be liberated in the tube after assembly by heating a glass capsule or amalgam.
