Abstract
1,042,155. Photographic transfer processes. TECHNICAL OPERATIONS Inc. April 9, 1963 [April 9, 1962], No. 14205/63. Addition to 968, 454. Heading G2C. A photographic transfer process wherein a silver image in a binder-free layer of silver halide crystals is contracted with a receptor sheet and the silver image is transferred, the surface of the receptor sheet being very smooth. Specified receptor sheets are sodium silicate coated on a glass plate which dehydrates on heating to form non-tacky silicon oxides; a urea-gelatin mixture coated on a glass support which softens on heating; a polymerizable adhesive on a suitable support, the polymerization being initiated by the silver image; pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes and tacky gelatin-sorbitol layers coated on polyester or polystyrene supports. In the examples, a binderfree silver halide layer on a support is imagewise exposed and developed, contacted with the receptor sheet, heat and/or pressure being applied where necessary to assist the transfer of the silver image. Several silver images may be transferred to different receptor sheets by using a binder-free silver halide layer of sufficient thickness so that on exposure and surface development the surface image can be transferred to a receptor sheet, the latent image then being developed and transferred to another receptor sheet; this process being repeated seven times for a silver halide layer one micron thick.
