Abstract
1,041,763. Filler devices for liquefied gas lighters. HEINRICH MALTNER G.m.b.H. Nov. 18, 1964 [Nov. 19, 1963], No. 47037/64. Heading F4F. A filler device for use in filling liquefied gas lighters from a recharge bottle 32 comprises a non-return filler valve operable by the pressure in the recharge bottle, and a venting valve for the lighter opened mechanically by means of the recharge bottle 32. In a first embodiment, Fig. 1, the filler valve comprises a hollow needle 6 having transverse bores 12 terminating in an annular groove 13 covered by a synthetic rubber tube 14 located by an annular groove 15 in the needle 6 or by a clamping ring (not shown). The venting valve comprises a sealing washer 18 disposed between a needle flange 16 and a circlip 17, and urged by a spring 19 acting on a needle ring 20 against a seat 7 on an insert 1. When the neck 31 of the bottle 32 is pushed into a cylindrical recess 4 in the insert 1, the needle 6 seals against a sealing ring 33, pushes a ball 36 away from the sealing ring 33 to open the bottle, and is finally pushed inwards into the filler device against the spring 19. The spring 19 may bear (as shown) against the flanged end 10 of the insert 1, or against a snap ring (not shown). The venting valve may be sited elsewhere on the tank and may be operable independently of the filler valve. The valve on the recharge bottle may be operable by the bottle being screwed into the filler device and not by a needle. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the synthetic rubber tube is pulled over a thicker portion of the needle 6 so that the tube is located thereby and the upper part of the tube forms the sealing surface of the venting valve.
