Abstract

A vacuum autoclave is used to sterilize articles therein by a process which comprises injecting steam into the autoclave during the initial evacuation stage whilst controlling the leakage of air into all parts of the autoclave to below a predetermined value, introducing steam for sterilization at a controlled rate to increase temperature and pressure and reducing the pressure to atmospheric after the sterilization period.
