A tiltable thrust bearing support for heavy loads, especially for bridges, comprising an elastomeric cushion 1 enclosed on all sides by a pot 2, 3 and a cover 4 is characterized in that packing and guide rings 5, 6 respectively for the cover 4 consist of a plastics material having low-friction characteristics, e.g. polytetrafluorethylene (P.T.F.E.). The guide and packings rings are let respectively into the cover-plate 4 and the cushion 1. The rings may have trapezoidal or triangular cross-sectional shape or they may be combined to form a single ring of triangular or trapezoidal cross-section. Alternatively, the rings may be placed on top of each other. In a modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), a tape of P.T.F.E. fabric is folded to form the guide ring 9. The rings may each comprise an overlapped- or butt-jointed strip or series of arcuate portions, and an underlying strip of sheet metal or plastics material 11, Fig. 10 (not shown), may also be included. Several packing rings, with their joints staggered, may be employed.
