A gyratory crusher comprises a main frame 12, 14, 16, Fig. 1 and a bowl releasably mounted thereon, and means for mounting on the bowl a portable jacking assembly, whereby the bowl can be raised relatively to the main frame to allow the crushing cavity to be cleared. As described, the bowl comprises a bowl proper 20 and a tilting ring 18 releasably mounted on the main frame and arranged for mounting of the jacking assembly. Piston rods 82 of jacks 51, Fig. 3 (not shown) extend through bores 85 in the ring and engage in sockets 86, in the frame flange 16. Each jack cylinder 52 comprises a pair of legs 54, 56, Fig. 4 (not shown), which include passageways 60, 62 for bolts 64, 65 threaded at 66, 68 and secured in tapped holes 70, 72 in a ring flange 19. Hydraulic fluid is introduced or exhausted into a space 88, and its force raises the cylinder 52, which in turn raises the tilting ring and separates it from the frame so that the crushing cavity is held open to permit it to be cleared of uncrushable material until the pressure is relieved. The assembly of jacks together with associates tubing and hydraulic pump may be readily installed where one of e.g. a battery of crushers is jammed. When the jacks are removed the openings 70, 72 and the passage 85 are capped to prevent ingress of dirt.
