Abstract
Azo dyes free from water-solubilizing groups and having the general formula A-N=N-B in which A is quinoline residue bound of the azo group in 8-position or a 2-benthiazole residue and B is a 2-phenylaminonaphthalene radical bound in 1-position to the azo group or a radical of formula <FORM:1040034/C4-C5/1> in which R1 and R2 are hydrogen atoms or phenyl radicals are prepared by diazotizing the component A and coupling to B, the dyes may be converted to the metal complexes particularly cobalt, copper, zinc, vanadium, chromium, aluminium and nickel by conventional processes. The coupling may take place in organic solvents, e.g. glacial acetic acid, pyridine, dimethylformamide, benzene or acetone. The dyes are used for dyeing polyolefines especially polypropylene containing metals as above in green-blue and rose shades. Reprecipitation from sulphuric acid is employed.
