[Class 56] A glass consists substantially wholly of B 2 O 3 , PbO and ZnO in the percentage proportions by weight as fall within the shaded area of the ternary diagram, i.e. substantially 50-85 per cent PbO, 2-25 per cent ZnO and 12-35 per cent B 2 O 3 . Up to 10 per cent by weight SiO 2 +Al 2 O 3 and up to 2 per cent impurities can be tolerated at the expense of the other constituents in their specified proportions. Up to 5 per cent of ZnO may be replaced by BaO and/or SrO.
