Abstract

Description

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The invention relates to a cylinder head assembly, in particular for a motor vehicle engine, a strip for fixing an accessory such as a turbocharger on a cylinder head body, and a combustion engine comprising a cylinder head assembly and a fixed turbocharger. on the cylinder head.

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

In the motor vehicle construction industry, many vehicles are equipped with an internal combustion engine or not, the performance and qualities of which require supercharging means, and in particular a turbocharger.

A turbocharger is an accessory fitted to the combustion engine which uses the exhaust gases to rotate a turbine linked to a compressor of the intake mixture and / or the intake air.

To supply the turbine with exhaust gas, the turbocharger has an exhaust gas collector which must be fitted and fixed to the cylinder head assembly fitted to the combustion engine.

The manifold is arranged and positioned along a lateral face of the cylinder head body, in line with the exits of the exhaust ducts of the cylinder head body.

For mounting and fixing the manifold, it is known to use a lateral mounting and fixing strip which is itself fixed to the cylinder head body and which cooperates with a complementary part of the manifold for positioning and maintaining the collector, and the fixing of the latter in association with complementary fixing means such as screws or equivalent means.

It appeared desirable to arrange the mounting strip in the upper part of the body of the cylinder head, that is to say above the exits of the exhaust ducts.

However, in addition to the cylinder head body, the cylinder head assembly includes a cylinder head cover which is arranged on the upper face of the cylinder head body to protect all of the components and elements, in particular for controlling the distribution and the feeding the cylinders, ensuring a tight seal between the cylinder head and the cylinder head cover.

To this end, the cylinder head cover is fixed to the cylinder head body at its periphery, by means of a series of fixing screws or similar means of assembly and fixing by screwing.

For this purpose, the cylinder head body comprises in known manner, at its periphery and in line with its upper face, a series of bosses, each of which comprises a fixing hole capable of receiving a complementary part, for example of a fixing screw.

The bosses of the cylinder head body arranged in the upper part along the vertical lateral face of the cylinder head body into which the exhaust ducts open do not make it possible to arrange the mounting strip of a turbocharger in the upper part, this is that is to say above the exits of the exhaust ducts and as close as possible to the upper face of the cylinder head body.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The invention provides a cylinder head assembly for a combustion engine comprising:

- a cylinder head body and a lateral strip for mounting an accessory on the cylinder head, in particular of a component belonging to a turbocharger, which is attached to the cylinder head body and fixed horizontally along a lateral face of the body cylinder head ;

- And a cylinder head cover which is fixed by means of a series of cylinder head cover fixing screws which are arranged longitudinally in line with said lateral face of the cylinder head body and each of which extends through a lateral boss on the cover -cylinder head ;

characterized in that the strip is fixed at the level of the horizontal upper face of the cylinder head body and comprises a horizontal upper face portion on which the cylinder head cover is fixed.

According to other characteristics of the cylinder head assembly:

- The strip has a series of holes distributed longitudinally through each of which extends a screw for fixing the cylinder head cover;

- The strip has an internal side face which is in transverse support against a surface portion facing the cylinder head body, and a horizontal upper face on which the cylinder head cover is fixed;

- The internal lateral face of the strip is extended downwards by an inclined internal lateral face which, with said surface portion facing the breech body, defines a housing which is capable of receiving a part of said accessory;

- The strip has an external lateral face comprising a series of bosses, each of which has a hole through which extends a screw for fixing the cylinder head cover;

- The strip is fixed to the cylinder head body by means of a series of mounting screws which are arranged along the strip;

- the mounting screws are inserted longitudinally between bosses of the strip.

The invention also provides a strip for mounting an accessory on a cylinder head body of a combustion engine, in particular of a component belonging to a turbocharger, characterized in that it comprises means for its mounting on a lateral face of the cylinder head body, and a series of bosses for fixing a cylinder head cover to the cylinder head body.

According to other characteristics of the strip:

- It has an internal lateral face of transverse support against a surface portion facing the cylinder head body, and a horizontal upper face for fixing the cylinder head cover;

- This internal lateral face is extended by an inclined internal lateral face which delimits a housing which is capable of receiving a part of said accessory;

- It has an external lateral face comprising a series of bosses, each of which has a hole capable of receiving a screw for fixing the cylinder head cover.

The invention also provides a motor vehicle combustion engine, characterized in that it comprises a cylinder head assembly according to the invention and a turbocharger, a part of which is mounted on the cylinder head body by means of the lateral mounting strip.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES

In the following description, elements having an identical structure or analogous functions will be designated by the same references.

In the following description, longitudinal, vertical and transverse orientations indicated by the trihedron L, V, T in the figures will be adopted without limitation. A horizontal plane is also defined which extends longitudinally and transversely.

There is shown in FIG. 1, partially schematically, a cylinder head assembly 10 which is connected with a turbocharger 12 of which only the casing and duct elements are represented in FIG. 1.

The cylinder head assembly 10 essentially consists of a cylinder head block 14, an upper cylinder head cover 16, and a strip 18 for mounting and fixing the exhaust gas collector 20 belonging to the turbocharger 12 .

The cylinder head body 14 comprises in particular a horizontal upper face 22 and a generally vertical lateral face 24 which is here the lateral face into which the exhaust conduits (not shown) open from the cylinder head body 14 which are here by way of example the number of four corresponding to a four-cylinder combustion engine.

Within the meaning of the invention, the upper part of the cylinder head body, and in particular the upper part of the vertical lateral face 24, is defined as the part adjacent to the intersection between the horizontal upper face 22 and the internal face of 24.

The cylinder head cover 16 is a part of complex hollow shape which is essentially constituted by a three-dimensional wall 26 which constitutes a cover for the protection and sealing of the upper face 22 of the cylinder head body

The cylinder head cover 16 is delimited at its lower part by a peripheral edge 28 which extends generally vertically over the entire periphery of the cylinder head cover 16 and which is delimited by a horizontal flat lower face 30.

In known manner, to allow the mounting of the cylinder head cover 16 on the cylinder head body 14, the peripheral edge 28 of the cylinder head cover 16 comprises a series of fixing bosses 32.

In the part of the peripheral edge 28, which is substantially rectilinear, which extends substantially in line with the vertical lateral face 34 of the cylinder head block 14, five fixing bosses 32 are provided here.

As can be seen in FIG. 4, each boss 32 has a vertical bore 34 to allow the passage of a fixing screw (not shown) of the cylinder head cover 16 on the cylinder head body 14.

In the upper part, in accordance with the teachings of the invention, the vertical lateral face 24 of the cylinder head body 14 is equipped with the mounting strip according to the invention 18 which integrates the fixing means complementary to those of the cylinder head cover 16 as well as means for mounting the turbocharger 12.

As can be seen in particular in FIGS. 2 and 3, the strip 18 is a piece of generally rectangular parallelepiped shape which here extends horizontally in the direction L.

The mounting strip 18 is notably delimited by an internal vertical lateral face 36, by an external vertical lateral face 38, by an upper horizontal face 40 and by a lower horizontal face 42.

For its mounting on the vertical lateral face 24 of the cylinder head body 14, the mounting strip 18 comprises a series of six horizontal holes 44 each of which, as can be seen in FIG. 5, is crossed by a mounting screw 46 and for fixing the strip 18 which here extends along a horizontal axis.

Each horizontal screw 46 is here screwed into a tapped hole complementary to the cylinder head body 14.

Once assembled and fixed by the screws 46, the mounting strip 18 forms a whole integral with the cylinder head body 14.

The mounting strip 18 includes a series of bosses 48, here five in number which are bosses allowing the mounting of the cylinder head cover 16 on the mounting strip 18 and therefore on the cylinder head body 14.

Each fixing boss 48 and projecting, transversely outward, on the external vertical lateral face 38 of the mounting strip 18.

As can be seen in particular in FIG. 4, each fixing boss 48 has a vertical through hole 50 which, as can be seen in FIG. 4, is aligned vertically with a fixing hole 34 of the cylinder head cover 16.

The mounting of the cylinder head cover 26 on the mounting strip 18, and therefore on the cylinder head block 14, is ensured by means of fixing screws (not shown) or similar screw-nut assemblies, each of which extends vertically to through the aligned holes 34 and 50.

The planar horizontal annular upper face 52 of each boss 48 is here coplanar with the upper horizontal face 40 of the strip 18.

The tightness of the cylinder head cover 16 relative to the cylinder head block 14, in the corresponding zone of the mounting strip 18, remains ensured in a known manner by the cylinder head and the cylinder head cover 16.

To allow mounting and fixing of the turbocharger 12, and here more particularly of its manifold 20, the mounting strip 18 comprises a series of housings 56 which are formed at the lower part of the mounting strip 18.

Each housing 56 is produced by means of an inclined lateral face 58 which extends in the extension of the internal vertical lateral face 36 and opposite the portion facing the vertical lateral face 24 of the body of cylinder head 14.

In section, and as can be seen in Figure 4, each housing 56 thus has a triangular outline which is open vertically downwards.

The manifold 20 of the turbocharger 12 has a peripheral edge 21, the upper part of which, not shown, comprises a series of complementary portions, each of which is capable of being received in a housing 56.

The mounting and fixing of the turbocharger 12 is thus carried out in particular by fitting said complementary portions into the housings 56 by transversely pressing the peripheral edge 21 against portions facing the vertical lateral face 24 of the cylinder head body 14 , around the outlets of the exhaust pipes.

To complete the mounting and fixing of the turbocharger 12 on the cylinder head assembly 10, the manifold

20 comprises a series of bosses 19 each of which allows fixing and tightening by screwing (of a nut not shown) around a stud 60 which is previously mounted screwed in a tapped hole provided for this purpose in the lower part in the face vertical lateral 24 of the cylinder head body 14.

The horizontal holes 44 and the screws 46 are distributed longitudinally between the fixing bosses 48.

Claims (12)

1. Cylinder head assembly (10) for a combustion engine comprising: a cylinder head body (14) and a lateral mounting strip (18) of an accessory (12) on the cylinder head, in particular of a component (20) belonging to a turbocharger, which is attached to the cylinder head body ( 14) and fixed horizontally along a lateral face (24) of the cylinder head body (14); - And a cylinder head cover (16) which is fixed by means of a series of screws for fixing the cylinder head cover (16) which are arranged longitudinally in line with said lateral face (24) of the cylinder head body and each of which s 'extends through a lateral boss (32) of the cylinder head cover (16); characterized in that the strip (18) is fixed at the horizontal upper face (22) of the cylinder head body (14) and has a horizontal upper face portion (40) on which the cylinder head cover (16) is fixed . 2. An assembly according to claim 3, characterized in that said internal lateral face (36) of the strip (18) is extended downwards by an inclined internal lateral face (58) which, with said surface portion facing - screw of the cylinder head body (14), delimits a housing (56) which is capable of receiving a part (20) of said accessory (12). 5. Assembly according to claim 3, characterized in that the strip (18) comprises an external lateral face (38) comprising a series of bosses (48) each of which comprises a hole (50) through which extends a screw fixing the head cover (1 6). 6. An assembly according to claim 1, characterized in that the strip (18) is fixed to the cylinder head body (14) by means of a series of mounting screws (46) which are arranged along the strip (1 8). 7. An assembly according to claim 6 and claim 5, characterized in that the mounting screws (46) are interposed longitudinally between bosses (48) of the strip (18). 8. Slider (18) for mounting an accessory (12) on a cylinder head body (14) of a combustion engine, in particular of a component (12) belonging to a turbocharger, characterized in that it comprises means (44) for mounting on a lateral face (24) of the cylinder head body (14), and a series of bosses (48) for fixing a cylinder head cover (16) on the cylinder head body (14). 9. Strip (18) according to claim 8, characterized in that it comprises an internal lateral face (36) of transverse support against a surface portion (24) vis-à-vis the cylinder head body (14) , and a horizontal upper face for fixing the cylinder head cover (16). 10. Strip (18) according to claim 9, characterized in that said internal lateral face (36) is extended by an inclined internal lateral face (58) which delimits a housing (56) which is capable of receiving a part of said accessory ( 12). 11. Strip (18) according to claim 9, characterized in that it comprises an external lateral face (38) comprising a series of bosses (48) each of which comprises a hole (50) capable of receiving a cover fixing screw -class (16). 12.
