Abstract

The grenade, esp. for anti-personnel use, consists of an explosive in one or more sections (1,2) enclosed in an outer case (3) of metal shrapnel held in shape by a binding agent (4), equipped with a detonator and held in a thermo-shrink shell (6). The grenade is kept sealed by a lip (8) and a sealing prod. The outer shell can be in the form of a thermo-shrink sleeve and a protective base or by a plastic overmoulding. The binding agent (4) can be of a resin, plastic or other material which is vaporised by the explosion and does not reduce the efficiency of the shrapnel. ADVANTAGE - More efficient in use.

Description

The anti-personal munitions generally used today which contain an explosive dispersing metallic shot are commonly called "grenades". They are generally formed from metallic envelopes and explosives poured or introduced into the body of the pomegranate in the form of flour or semolina and compressed more or less strongly to form a closed volume containing the explosive which is initiated by a pyrotechnic system during its use.

Figure 1 attached to this description represents one of the embodiments of the invention. Figures 2 and 3 show the solid explosive. Figures 4 and 5 show the shot (13) held in place with a binder material (12) of resin or plastic type or any other binder material. FIG. 6 represents the interface piece allowing a fixing of the igniter plug initiating the grenade and allowing the passage of a detonation relay system. FIG. 7 represents a heat-shrinkable envelope which, when subjected to a flow of hot air, comes to take the form (6) of FIG. 1.

FIG. 8 represents another form of the invention where the heat-shrinkable envelope (6) is replaced by a heat-shrinkable sleeve (10) and a holding base (they.

Figure 9 shows another form of the invention with solid explosive (14) in a single element.

The invention relates to the grenade and the method of producing the grenade by assembling solid explosives, shot maintained by a binder, interface parts, and heat-shrinkable envelope for holding the assembly.

The grenade, object of the present invention, consists of two elements (1) and (2) of solid explosive leaving a passage (7) for a detonation relay and two pseudo-hemispheres (3) and (4) formed by shot (13) overmolded with a binder (12) of resin type, or plastic, or any other kind of binder, an interface piece (5) allowing the fixing to the grenade of a setting element igniter plug type fire, the whole being fixed by a heat-shrinkable envelope (6). The envelope (6) is put in place before its retraction and during the retraction operation the elements (1), (2), (3), (4), and (5) are maintained and are positioned according to the figure 1.

A lip (8) of the element (5) seals. One of the improvements of the present invention is to apply a sealant to the lip (8) before the heat-shrinking operation.

Another form of the present invention is to put only a heat-shrinkable sleeve (10) and a protective and protective bottom (11) as shown in FIG. 8. The seals which can be provided identically when mounting the figure 1.

One of the forms of the invention is to replace the heat-shrinkable sheath (6) with a plastic overmolding.

The behavior of the grenade during firing is as follows
At the time of initiation of the initiation pyrotechnic system comprising a detonation initiation relay not shown in FIG. 1, the initiation pyrotechnic system transmits the detonation to the explosive consisting of (1) and ( 2) which itself detonates and projects the shot (13) contained in the pseudo-hemispheres (3) and (4) in all directions. The constituents (5), (6) and the binder (12) of the pseudo-hemispheres (3) and (4) being materials of the resin, plastic or other binder type with mechanical characteristics much weaker than the mechanical characteristics of shot (13) are volatilized under the effect of the explosion and do not oppose the effectiveness of the shot (13).
