Abstract

A safety belt for activities in aquatic media. The belt is made of a body of polyethylene foam having a rectangular base and mainly consisting of two portions. The first, girdling portion (2) encircles part of the user's body, e.g. the waist or thighs, while the other, fastening portion (4) holds the belt in position. Said two portions are joined by a self-locking system such as 'Velcro' (registered trade mark), consisting of at least two strips of which a first, 'hook' strip (6) supports hooks which engage loops supported on the second, 'loop' strip (8), both strips (6 and 8) being correspondingly attached to the belt. The strip (8) that is attached to the fastening portion (4) extends therebeyond to form at least one flexible projecting end portion (10), the belt being held in position by said end portion (10) even when the fastening portion (14) is accidentally detached.
