Abstract

Device allowing descent along a cable, characterised in that it comprises a body 1 supporting two superposed parallel spindles on which two pulleys 6, 7 freewheel, a bar 10 being articulated to the body 1, which bar supports a spindle on which a third pulley 13 freewheels, the latter being permanently subjected to braking by at least one pad, the said bar 10 being securely fastened to a lever 16 in order to control its tilting so as to bring the third pulley 13 between the two first pulleys, the said lever 16 having at its free end means 17 for fastening a member enabling a person to be supported, and handles being provided to hold oneself with the hands, along with a member for controlling the spacing of the pad from the third pulley 13.

Description

 The present invention relates to a device which allows even a slightly agile person to descend along a preferably stretched cable, for example from a high floor of a building when the staircase or the elevator cannot be used following a fire in the lower floors.

 The device according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a body supporting two superimposed parallel axes on which idle two pulleys intended to be located on one side of the cable, on the body being articulated a bar supporting an axis on which turns crazy a third pulley, the latter being permanently braked by at least one shoe and being located on the side of the cable opposite to that on the side of which the two first pulleys are located, said bar being integral with a lever for control the tilting of said bar in order to bring the third pulley between the first two, said lever at its free end comprising means for fixing a member allowing a person to be supported such as a bag, a strap , or a bar, and handles being provided to hold with the hands with a member for controlling the spacing of the pad of the third pulley.

Such a device is very simple and very practical to use. I1 indeed suffices to place it on a cable so that the latter is inserted between the first two pulleys and the third, then to tilt the lever so that said device is fixed on the cable, the person having to evacuate the building placing his legs in the bag and holding with his hands on the handles and can easily while standing, release the third pulley.

 According to a characteristic of detail, the body comprises a fixed arm with which the lever coincides when the third pulley is located between the first two.

 In order to facilitate the installation of the device, the bar comprises a pawl which cooperates with a small rack of the body to hold the third pulley between the first two.

 According to a constructive detail, the third pulley has two metal cheeks and a hard rubber core.

 Figure 4 and Figure 5 are elevational views respectively showing the establishment of the device and its use.

 The device shown in the figures comprises a body 1 formed by two plates 2 and 3 supporting two axes 4 and 5 on which pulleys 6 and 7 rotate freely.

 The body 1 is integral with an arm 8, the free end of which carries a ring 9.

 On the axis 7 is pivotally mounted a bar 10, the free end of which supports an axis 12, on which a pulley 13 turns madly. The pulley 13 is formed of two cheeks 14 enclosing between them a hard rubber core 15.

 On the bar 10 is welded a lever 16 whose free end carries a ring 17.

 The axis 12 is fixed and is extended so as to receive two handles 22.

 The bar 10 is extended by a bar 23 which is, at its free end secured to a support 32.

On the support 32 is welded an elastic blade 33 in the shape of a U, one branch 33a of which carries a brake shoe 34 cooperating, permanently with the cheek 14 of the pulley 13.

 The other branch 33b of the elastic blade 33 is integral with a yoke 25 crossed by an axis 26 on which is articulated a link 27 which bears against a cam 28 of a chuck lever 29 articulated on an axis 30 carried by a yoke 31 secured to branch 33b.

 The branch 33b carries a shoe 24 which permanently bears against the cheek 14 opposite to that with which the shoe 34 cooperates. Between the blade 33 and the lever 27 is inserted a rod 35 which allows, when acting on the handle 29 in the direction of the arrow (Figure 3) to separate the pads 24 and 34 from the cheeks 14.

 The bar 10 is provided with a pawl 40 intended to cooperate with a rack 41 formed on the cheek 3.

 The cheeks 2 and 3 have a notch 42 which constitutes a stop for the axis 12.

 The device (see Figure 1) is intended to be used with a cable 45 stretched in front of a multi-storey apartment building. The cable 45 may extend permanently in front of the building, or, as shown, be mounted on a winch 46 fixed in the vicinity of the roof, a weight 47 being provided at the free end of the cable 45.

 In the event of danger, the staircase or the elevator no longer being usable, for example due to a fire in the lower floors, the device is placed on the cable, as shown in Figure 4, then pivoted the lever 16 so that it comes to coincide with the arm 8, in the rings 9 and 17 it is possible to engage a bar, a loop of a strap, or a loop of a bag (see FIG. 5) in order to secure the lever 16 and the bar 8. The user can then, without fear, place his legs in the bag, or sit on the bar, the device being blocked on the cable 45.

 When the user is in place, it suffices for him to press on the handle 29 to release the pulley 13, the device then descending along the cable 45.

 To release the device from the cable 45, it suffices to pivot the lever 16 to bring it back to the position shown in FIG. 4.

 Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment which has just been described and shown. Many modifications of detail can be made without departing from the scope of the invention.

 10- Device for descending along a cable characterized in that it comprises a body (1) supporting two superposed parallel axes (4,5) on which two idler pulleys (6,7) rotate intended to be located d 'one side of the cable, on the body (1) being articulated a bar (10) supporting an axis (12) on which a third pulley (13) turns madly, the latter being permanently braked by at least one shoe (24,34) and being located on the side of the cable opposite to that of the side on which the two first pulleys (6,7) are located, said bar (10) being integral with a lever (16) for controlling the tilting of said bar (10) in order to bring the third pulley (13) between the first two, said lever (16) at its free end comprising means (17) for fixing a member allowing a person to be supported as a bag, a strap, or a bar, and handles being provided for holding with the hands with a member (29) for controlling the spacing of the shoe (24,34) of the third pulley (13).  2 "- Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the body (1) comprises a fixed arm (8) with which the lever (16) coincides when the third pulley is located between the first two.  30 Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the bar (10 comprises a pawl (40) which cooperates with a rack of the body (1) to hold the third pulley 13 between the first two.  4 - Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the third pulley has two metal cheeks (14) and a core (15) of hard rubber.  5 "- Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the handles (22) are arranged coaxially with the axis of the third pulley (13).
