Abstract

The solar collector comprises a Fresnel lens (10) with a rectilinear focusing region and an almost parabolic mirror (14) of roughly the same width which is placed parallel to and behind the lens and which reflects the light received from the lens on to a rectilinear target (16) placed between the lens and the reflecting surface. The width (l) of the mirror and the width (L) of the lens, the focal length (f) of the parabola and the focal length (F) of the lens at normal incidence, the distance (d) from the target to the mirror and the distance (D) from the lens to the mirror, and finally the width (t) of the focal spot formed by the lens are related to the width (c) of the target by the following relationships, in which c = 3a: f = 4a +/- 0.5a F = 20a +/- 5a t </= 2a d = 3a +/- 0.5a D = 13.5a +/- a
