Abstract

Cushion design providing maintainance of position of small spheres or particles making up the filling of the cushion enclosure. The design is inended for use particularly where support for an injured limb or person generally is required. The outer flexible covers (1, 2) of the cushion carry, either a web of similar flexible bands (11, 12, 13) through the centre of the enclosure or two perforated sheets in the same position. The webs or sheets carry permanent permanent magnets or bands of metal which may be magnetised. The spheres (16) acting as the filling are of polystyrene or similar loaded with a magnetic material such that the filling will, under the influence of the magnets or an externally induced magnetic field hold any desired position in a partial vacuum.
