Abstract

Optical acoustic or infra red images are swept bidimensionally by projecting the image onto a semiconductor film below which surface elastic waves are released to alter conductivity. This permits production of the solid state electronic camera. A semiconductor film (4) covered by a transparent electrode (5) is spaced (3) from a piezo-electric substrate (1) below which is a ground electrode (2). The semiconductor film is illuminated by an optical projector and variations are converted to variation of conductivity of the film. Surface elastic waves are transmitted across the film by transducers (6-8) connected to signal generators (9-11) which generate a constant frequency waveform (11) and pulse waveforms (9, 10). A synchronisation signal (9) enables the sweep lines to be distinguished by an output circuit (12).
