Abstract
Installation for laying pipes under water, where the conduit is intended to be submerged on the bottom of the sea or watercourse, involves provision of negative floating ability for pipe sections laid at regular or irregular distances so that these (2, 3) support on the bottom (4) and a positive floating ability whereby the remainder of the conduit sections float (5, 6, 7) between two water levels or rest on the bottom. A distributed ballast is used to provide the negative floating ability for those sections placed directly on the bottom, whilst floats are provided for the remainder, ensuring a positive floatability, or one which is only just positive. These latter sections are maintained at a slight distance above the water bed, e.g. by towing cables.
