Abstract

A non-return valve (1) consists of a metal disc (2) with a central hole (4) clamped between the flanges of a pipe line. The valve flap (6) is a metal disc enclosed in rubber and joined by a flexible neck (7) to a surrounding ring (5) also of rubber. The valve flap (6) is normally held open by the pressure difference due to the flow of fluid (F). When the flow ceases or tries to change direction the resilience of the rubber neck (7) pulls the flap (6) onto the seat (8). The rubber coating of the valve flap forms an effective seal on the valve seat and at the same time protects the metal part of the flap against corrosion.
