Abstract

The endotracheal tube is for medical use when applying artificial respiration or anaesthetical ventilation to the lungs of a patient. It is inserted into the mouth (1) and the trachea (2), an enlargement (6) forming a seal to prevent leakage. The external end (4, 7) of the tube is connected to a valve (C) for controlling the patient's inhalation and exhalation. This external length of tube is provided with a branch connection (10) which is used for the permanent insertion (12) of a smaller tube (14) to remove the endobronchial secretions in the lungs (A). A slight suction is provided and ribbing inside the larger tube is used for support.
