Abstract

An imitation crushed velvet is formed from a woven fabric on which a relief pattern is formed during weaving, e.g. by the insertion of extra yarns. The surface with the relief pattern is then carded by e.g. metallic card plates to brush up the projecting areas and form a pile. The reverse face is left plain and may ressemble a satin. The fabric may be treated by conventional finishing processes. A crushed velvet can be easily formed from a variety of different yarns.
