Abstract

A sodium vapour high-pressure discharge lamp is fitted with two main discharge electrode which face each other so that the gap represents the effective discharge path during operation. An auxiliary electrode defines another shorter discharge path which is used for ignition. It is fused like the main electrodes into a sheath of not readily fusible material, pref. polycrystalline aluminium oxide. This lamp requires no external ignition device and causes no interference with wireless and TV reception.
