Abstract

Enzymes are isolated from natural mixtures by treatment with a complex-forming polyinhibitor which is initially soluble in aq. organic media. The complex is separated and broken down by change in pH or ionic strength and the polyinhibitor may be recycled. Suitable polyinhibitors have a polymeric chain, e.g. a polyoxyalkylene glycol which is reacted with a polyfunctional derivative, and then with an inhibitor for the specific enzyme, e.g. D-phenyl alanine or D-trytophan for use with chymotrypsin. Pptn. of the complexes is effected at low temp. in aq. alcoholic media keeping the dielectric constant at 75-82. If desired the complex formation and extraction may be effected in series to isolate a series of enzymes from the mixture.
