Abstract

The modular element (1) consists of a rectangular box made of plastic with a number of internal partitions (9). A lid with matching holes and tubes is placed over the box and secured to it by ultra-sonic welding so that a rigid but light-weight block results with a number of vertical sleeves through it. These modular elements can then be assembled to each other with bolts or screwed metal rods which pass through the sleeves. They can also be used in conjunction with metal tubes to build chairs, tables etc., with easily replaceable elements.
