Abstract

adenosine derivs. of formula (I), (where R1 is lower alkyl, cycloalkyl or bicycloalkyl; R2 is H or acyl; X is O or S; and n is 1, 2 or 3), e.g. N6-cyclopentyl-N6-(2-thenyl-adenosine, and their pharmacologically tolerable salts are new cpds. which can be prepd. by reacting a corresp. 6-Z-purine riboside (II) (where Z is a reactive residue) with an appropriate amine (III). (I) do not have the usual cardiovascular effects of adenosine derivs., but instead have strong antilipolytic, antihyperlipaemic and antihypercholesterol-aemic activity.
