Abstract

A process for stratifying a mixt of solids making use the the densities of the components consists of oscillating a bed of the mixt on a screen carrying a layer of spherical particles, e.g. of glass, and blowing an intermittent current of air upwards through the screen, the layer and the bed. The frequency of oscillation and the rate of air flow can be adjusted independently according to the matl. A plant for carrying out the process consists of a vessel with a screen, e.g. a perforated metal sheet or a grid, mounted on it, capable of vertical or horizontal movement and carrying a layer of particles pref. of density between those of the dense and light components of the mixt.
