Abstract
Device for protecting the inner surface of an ingot mould or other mould during coating consists of a screen of >=1, pref. 2 materials which melt or burn when in contact with the molten metal without adding impurities to it. One of the layers of material usually contains finely divided metal. By melting/burning when in contact with the metal the screens prevent the molten metal from splashing the mould interior and thus avoid the creation of defects. Metallic powders are evenly distributed when the metal rises in the mould and by varying the thickness of the powder layer each mould can be protected according to its needs.
