Abstract

5-Cinnamoyl-4,7-dimethoxy carboxy methoxybenzofurans of formula: where Ar is phenyl opt. substd by >=1 OH, alkoxy (1-4C) or halogen. They have analgesic antiinflammatory, vasodilator diuretic, hypotensive antihistaminic and bronchodilator activity. They are prepd. by saponification of 5-acetyl-4,7-dimethoxy-6-ethoxycarbonylmethoxybenzofuran and condensation of the resultant acid with benzaldehyde.
