Abstract

1423401 Pneumatic tyres DUNLOP Ltd 10 Jan 1973 [21 Jan 1972] 1339/73 Heading B7C A pneumatic tyre comprising a breaker, two carcass plies of substantially radially disposed parallel cords, bead cores 5, fillers 6 and flipper strips 7 has in each sidewall, between the carcass plies, a reinforcing strip 10 extending from the bead region to a height from the bead heel of over half the maximum external height H of the tyre. The turned up edge of the inner carcass ply may extend to a height from the bead heel of at least H/4. The flipper strip may extend to a height from the bead heel of at least H/2, and may comprise textile or nylon cord, glass, steel or fleece materials. The radially innermost abutment of turned-up portions of the flipper strip occurs at a height from the bead heel of between 14 and 25% of the height H. The flipper strip may comprise parallel cords which are at an angle of 25-60 degrees with the longitudinal axis of the bead core. The reinforcing strip has a maximum thickness between 2-6 mm., and a hardness of 70-90 Shore, and may consist of rubber with or without inserts, e.g. of steel. The strip 10 may extend to a height from the bead heel of 65% of the tyre height H. The lower sidewall includes a strip 13 preferably of a harness of approximately 85 Shore, of a maximum thickness between 3-8 mm. and spaced from the radially outer edge of strip 10 by 10-30% of the height H.
