Abstract
Patterns and core-boxes, intended for use under abrasive conditions in mould and core prodn., are electrolessly plated with Ni, at least on surfaces in contact with erosive mould- and core-forming materials. Ni is evenly distributed to form an >0.0064 mm. thick layer. Before plating, Al surfaces are cleaned by steam degreasing, dip-cleaning, and immersion in an acid bath, followed by a zincate treatment. An HNO3 bath is used for Fe surfaces and cleaning of cast iron includes steam degreasing, dipping in an alkaline soln., then in detergents and then in an acid bath, opt. by electrolytic means for cast iron. Plating raises service-life and gives better sepn. and visible wear indication.
