Abstract

The catalyst, consisting of 1 metal of gp. VIa, VIIa or VIII on a carrier, circulates through a reactor contg. >=2 catalytic zones arranged vertically above each other and is progressively drawn off from the last zone, regenerated and recycled to the other end so that the activity remains substantially constant at any point. Pref. the regenerated catalyst goes to the top of a second similar reactor in which the treatment of the hydrocarbon charge from the first is continued, is drawn off from the bottom and lifted to the top of the first reactor, through which it then circulates. Volume of the catalytic zones pref. increases in the direction in which the charge moves. Regeneration is pref. by combustion in O2 contg. gas, oxychlorination with gas contg. O2 and halogen, hydrogen halide or alkyl halide, treatment with O2-contg. gas and finally reduction in H2. The process is esp. suitable for reforming and and prodn. of aromatics from petrols obtained by pyrolysis, cracking, steam-cracking, catalytic reforming or from naphthenes. It permits continuous operation without interruption for catalyst regeneration.
