Abstract

1-(p-Aminobenzenesulphonyl)-3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-oxazolyl)-guanidine Title cpd. of formula (I) is prepd. by reacting a 1-benzenesulphonyl-3-cyano-guanidine (II) (where X is NH2 or a substituent convertible into NH2, e.f. acylamino, azo or NO2) with acetoin and, when X is not = NH2, converting X into NH2 in a known manner. Title cpd. has excellent chemotherapeutic, esp. bacteriostatic properties and, because of low resorption from the GI tract, is useful for treating GI tract infections.
