Abstract
The ground crude phosphate (particles 0.25mm) is attacked with a mineral acid in several, pref. at least 3, stages in containers whose agitaters have a max. circumferential speed of 1.5m/sec. less than the theoretical amount of acid is used and the pH is maintained >0.5. The soln. obtained which contains monocalcium phosphate, phosphoric acid and a calcium salt is separated from the residue. Any fluoride which pases into soln is pref. pptd. before separation by raising the pH to 1-1.4 a flocculation agent may be added. Dicalcium phosphate also pptd. being recovered in a later treatment and fed back into the attack circuit. Reaction temps of 40-60 degrees C are used. The elimination of large amounts of fluoride from solns formed with processes using excess acid is thus avoided.
