Abstract

An improved tyre tread for a pneumatic tyre, having a higher braking coefficient under wet and dry conditions than the normal tyre tread, which consists essentially of a layer between 0.05 and 3.0 mm and preferably about 1 mm thick of a rubber composition of higher braking coefficient as specified above applied over the surface of a tread of normal composition vulcanised onto the usual type of carcase. The layer may be a composition based on a butadiene-styrene copolymer, while the underlying tread may be of natural rubber or also be based on this copolymer but differs from the layer in general by having a higher proportion of plasticiser and carbon black in relation to the copolymer content.
