Abstract
Product consists of the NH4 salt of the copolymer of a vinyl ester (preferably the formate, acetate, propionate or butyrate) and a carboxyl-containing monomer (preferably crotonic, acrylic, methyacrylic, maleic or monomethylylmaleic acid/anhydrife), in the ratio 99:1 to 90:10 by wt., together with 1.0-5.5 %, on solids basis, of a wax emulsion. In examples, copolymers of vinyl acetate with 4 mol% of crotonic acid and methacrylic acid, and of vinyl propionate with 4 mol.% of crotonic acid are mentioned. The products are suitable for both hydrophilic and hydrophobic fibres. They have good water-resistant and swelling power, and have anti-static properties. The products lose NH3 when the coated fibres are dried, and only then assume the above properties.
