Abstract

The invention relates to 2,5-diazabicyclo/2,2,1/heptane intermediates of the formula II: <IMAGE> wherein X is SO2 or CO2 and R2 is C1-C6 alkyl, triflouromethyl, benzyl or phenyl, optionally substituted by one or two C1-C6 alkyl, halogen, nitro, methoxy or triflouromethyl, and R5 is C1-C6 alkyl, and their enantiomers and racemates. Compound II are of use as intermediates in the production of quinolones.
