Menetelmä prosessoida biomassaa altistamalla, keittimessä (100), biomassa bioliuottimelle ja prosessin ohjausaineelle, joka sisältää ainakin yhden epäorgaanisen aineen, joka määritelty tuhkaksi furfuraalin muodostumisen tehostamiseksi; ja erottelemalla furfuraali biomassasta, joka on prosessoitu keittimessä (100).
