Abstract

Method comprises methylating hydroxy-deriv. (II) with dimethyl sulphate or methyl iodide at 0-50 deg.C in a water-tetrahydrofuran mixt. (b) distilling water under vacuum to remove the solvent (c) extracting with ethyl acetate or methylene chloride to give 5-trifluoromethyl -2- (4-methoxy-3-methyl-2 pyridylmethyl) thio)-(1H) -benzimidazole) (I) and (d) purifying with acetonitrile.
